Escenarios y músicos de jazz en Bogotá

Abstract

Jam sessions have been, historically, one of the most important phenomena around the music of the 20th century, where, in the middle of informality, way many events that may remain unknown have occurred. Jam sessions have been a gestation point for important projects, great artists, extraordinary moments, and artistic currents, like jazz, a musical genre that this document intends to approach with particular emphasis. Being this a transnational phenomenon, and maybe, a global one, has taken particular prominence in the jazz scene of Bogota, and all the myriad of experiences that have taken place in the middle of these places haven’t been documented with the width and detail they deserve. This writing, in consequence, does not aim to file all the unfathomable amount of episodes experienced throughout the jam sessions, but it does aim to provide a concise description of diverse elements that are part of these worthy spaces in the jazz scene of the 21st century Bogota. So then, to prevent these events from being forgotten, this document will go through the scenarios where jam sessions have taken place, the current dynamics of these, the frequenters of the sessions, the pedagogical importance that they offer to the music, and some other anecdote that surely worths save to posterity.
