Resumen
In our current context in which the interest and need to preserve and restore the environment is more present than at any other time in history, at a time when the destruction of the biosphere due to the activity of a single species of living being has never been so severely accelerated. In this context, various tools, concepts, strategies and actions have been developed to address this situation. A concept that is usually mentioned by different institutions, entities, media, etc., is Sustainable Development. This concept was introduced for the first time by the German-British professor Ernst Friedrich Schumacher in 1973, but it was after the Rutland commission of 1987 that this concept gained greater relevance and use, which despite having various controversies and objections has had an influence on the development of public policies and the mission of different institutions and entities (such as the mission of the Botanical Garden of Bogotá José Celestino Mutis JBBJCM) of the American continent and Europe Mainly. This project addresses this concept to promote it, focusing on the conservation of vulnerable ecosystems in Colombia, using the JBBJCM Tropicario as a space to carry out this environmental education activity with visitors. Silvopastoral livestock farming was also addressed during the intervention with the participants as a strategy to counteract one of the most important causes of deforestation and degradation of forests and jungles in South America. Although sustainable development as a concept does not have the possibility of contributing to the conservation of ecosystems directly or with other strategies that mitigate the negative impacts of anthropogenic activity and its effects on climate change, it is a concept that can contribute to a new worldview in which human beings find a balance between their own activities and the health of the environment and nature.
