Resumen
The population in Colombian cities is growing rapidly; according to the information published by the National Administrative Department of Statistics - DANE (2014) accompanied by an important urbanization process, generating great challenges to handle the increases in demand for water for human consumption in the country (UNESCO, 2014). These are problems that the national government has dimensioned since the current government 2002-2006, for this reason they have been proposing policies which present strategies for structuring the provision of drinking water and basic sanitation services through the regionalization of the service. public aqueduct in Colombia, using the departmental plans of Water and Sanitation - PDA as the main mechanism as a tool to guarantee the growth of coverage and improvement in the quality of the public aqueduct service throughout the national territory, which has been regulated in a Document CONPES 3463 OF 2007 where the guidelines of the PDAs are determined, however this implementation has had little progress due to business transformation processes and linking of specialized operators, and limited information on regional aqueducts, in this sense this work provides conceptual elements als referring to the characteristics of regional aqueducts, thus identifying and defining the regional aqueducts currently present in Colombia.
