Resumen
The use of representations in the teaching process – learning in the natural sciences allows to identify through different types of representation (words, images, symbols) the conceptions that are held about a certain phenomenon. This research shows the results of external representations prepared by third-grade students on changes state of matter. This study was developed under the qualitative and interpretive paradigm by designing, validating and implementing three activities (inquiry questionnaire, deepening questionnaire and mind map). The results were systematized and analyzed with the help of ATLAS. Ti qualitative analysis software and Excel quantitative software. Representations prepared by students of textual, graphic and oral type were obtained from the established categories: everyday knowledge, school scientific knowledge and an emerging category called representations of water uses; these categories were determined by the researcher taking as a reference the review of the literature.
