Resumen
The main objective of this research was to determine the impact of the Duochallenge for Engagement (DCE) pedagogical proposal on the levels of engagement of students of english as a foreign language with low academic performance in a private university. The background check related to engagement accounts for its positive link with the academic performance of the students. They also give an account of the malleability of the different dimensions of engagement through the implementation of strategies inside and outside the classroom. This quasi-experimental study integrated the mixed method to observe the impact of the pedagogical proposal that integrated the use of the Duolingo® tool as a complement to the english classes. It can be concluded that the pedagogical proposal had an impact contrary to the expected in the cognitive and affective dimensions of engagement. Additionally it is possible to conclude that the use of the Duolingo® platform did have a positive impact on the academic performance of the students in the experimental group.
