Resumen
Colombia is a country with agricultural and industrial potential that can become one of the largest exporters of food products worldwide. Therefore, the present research carried out a characterization of the manufacturing group "food product manufacturing" in Colombia in the period between 2014 and 2018, through the application of a methodology designed by the ARCOSES research group of the District University Francisco José de Caldas, in order to serve as input for the planning of public policies and the execution of specific actions of the different related actors. The execution of this work was carried out around 10 components: General aspects; value chain; competition; acroeconomic factors; human capital; Business; Research, development and innovation; environment; regulations and, finally, problems, opportunities and perspectives. Likewise, and for the purpose of addressing its methodological development, it was divided into five phases: the first consisted of the search for antecedents, where it was inquired about the diagnostic methodologies already carried out in the sector under study, in the second and third, the search and classification of data and information was carried out according to the variables related to the components of the guide methodology; and in the last two phases, the information obtained was recorded and consolidated. The results show a general vision of the sector with respect to each component analyzed, showing the main problems, needs and challenges, as well as the internal and external factors that characterized it to a greater extent. In this way, the need to join state and institutional efforts focused on the accurate development of this economic and social segment, through action in specific factors and the promotion of management practices that serve as articulation, such as the model of the triple helix.
