It was founded with the ASAB camerata, initially directed by maestro Frank Preuss, and subsequently, since the creation of the ASAB Faculty of Arts attached to the Francisco José de Caldas District University, has been directed by maestros Carlos Sánchez, Jorge Andrés Vélez, Edgar Alarcón, César Villamil, and Lucas Fernández. He has performed in the city's most important venues, such as the Teatro Colón, the Teresa Cuervo Auditorium at the National Museum, the León de Greiff Auditorium, and the Virgilio Barco Library, among others. He participated in the Pereira Symphony Festival in 2009, in the Interuniversity Choir and Orchestra Meetings held from 2017 to 2019 at the National University of Colombia, Bogotá, and has participated in important productions within the artistic programming of the ASAB Faculty of Arts. The current principal conductor is Leonardo Marulanda Rivera. SYMPHONIC CONDUCTING DEPARTMENT ASAB Faculty of Arts. The Symphonic Conducting Department at the Francisco José de Caldas District University - ASAB Faculty of Arts offers its students, as a fundamental pillar of their training, the opportunity to gain a comprehensive experience in the learning process by developing ongoing practice with the Faculty's symphonic ensembles. It is currently conducted by Leonardo Marulanda Rivera, along with piano encore performers Aurelio Caro and Arminda Marcial. His students, who are currently conducting the ASAB Symphony Orchestra, are: Dayanth Steven Solano Salinas, Jhon Sebastián Muñoz Vargas, Cristian Camilo Morales González, and Juan José Ramírez Sánchez.
