Resumen
Nowadays, the power sector has been modified by the inclusion of renewable energies in order to take advantage of "green energy resources". As a result, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) seek to contribute to the electrical system to give a better operation in terms of reliability for the user and reduced costs for the operator. Therefore, this document proposes a methodology to increase the useful cycles with lead-acid batteries, by introducing a new parallel array configuration referred to as "independent strings" and perform a suitable sizing based of requirements for a specific application. This methodology can be implemented for any type of generation and load, through exposing a case of design to study the feasibility of the method. Furthermore, it can be evaluated through simulations using the battery model developed from actual measurements, estimating capacity and energy extracted along the lifespan. Also, know electrical parameters such as current and voltage, the latter being variable for determining battery aging, in order to estimate the BESS useful cycles when it is subjected to a specific depth of discharge.
