Resumen
This undergraduate thesis, titled Formation of the PCAD for Artistic-Commercial Entertainment, critically examines the extent to which the Proyecto Curricular Arte Danzario (PCAD) of the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas prepares its students to meet the demands of the artistic-commercial entertainment industry. Using an autoethnographic approach based on the author’s academic journey within the PCAD and current professional experience in Turkey’s commercial performance sector, the study analyzes the program’s pedagogical approaches, curricular content, and competency development. The research problematizes the gap between academic dance training and the realities of commercial entertainment, including international shows, high-performance scenic standards, and performative versatility. The findings highlight the PCAD’s strengths in artistic sensitivity, identity construction and critical thinking, while revealing shortcomings related to training for commercial stage work, technical versatility, physical preparation for high-demand environments, and integration into global entertainment circuits. The thesis proposes a reflection on the need to incorporate curricular strategies aligned with contemporary artistic-commercial market dynamics, without undermining the program’s artistic, critical and formative principles.
