Resumen
This monograph examines the influence of external factors on the organization, development, and outcomes of major international sporting events. Using a qualitative and documentary-based approach, three emblematic case studies were analyzed: the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the Valencia Formula 1 European Grand Prix (2008–2010), and the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. The findings reveal that economic, socio-political, infrastructural, and climatic factors play a decisive role in shaping both the perception and execution of these events. While each case presents unique challenges, recurrent issues such as cost overruns, social tensions, political decisions, and environmental conditions were identified as threats to the viability and legacy of the events. The study concludes that strategic planning, supported by tools such as SWOT analysis and the application of administrative processes—planning, organization, management, and control—is essential to mitigate risks and enhance the long-term benefits of mega sporting events.
