Resumen
Water quality is fundamental, according to The Pan American Health Organization (2007), through this, access to drinking water is guaranteed to improve the health conditions of the populations and prevent public health problems. However, in many cases, the water is of poor quality and does not meet the minimum requirements, although it is distributed through piped networks and home connections, in Colombia according to Guzmán, Nava and Díaz (2015) the drinking water directly covers 82% in 2015, with a significant difference between 95% coverage in the urban area and 62% in the rural area, where there is still a high percentage of the population without access to drinking water in rural areas. The Island sidewalk in the municipality of Villarrica, Tolima is no stranger to these conditions, according to figures from Briñez, Guarnizo and Arias for the year 2017 the IRCA of this path was 87.05%, which refers to water is unfeasible sanitary. This path provides water for the consumption of Quebrada la Hedionda, through the Santo Tomás community aqueduct that emerges as a community initiative, in view of the need to provide water to a population distributed in 34 homes that have approximately 5 inhabitants per dwelling, Regardless, it lacks water treatment, which represents a risk in human health because it does not meet the basic parameters established by Decree 1575 of 2007 for the quality of water for human consumption. An alternative to the aforementioned problem is the implementation of a technology that allows access to quality water, in this specific case the implementation of a Compact Drinking Water Treatment Plant is proposed that improves conditions in quantity and quality variables of the water resource. For the research, the collection, study, analysis and processing of field and secondary information was carried out based on a case study methodology.
