Resumen
Many of today's environmental issues are related to the production and use of single-use products, which are made up of production and use of single-use products, which are composed of highly durable materials, such as Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) and materials of great durability, such as Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) and fiberglass. These two elements are in great demand due to their thermal insulation capacity. thermal insulation capacity, which is why this research raises the initial possibility of substituting such synthetic materials, taking into account the the initial possibility of substituting such synthetic materials, taking into consideration a tree species known as Arboloco known as Arboloco (Montanoa quadrangularis Sch. bip. Asteraceae). For this purpose, the theoretical values of the thermal conductivity and thermal resistance of the two materials in question are identified. In this way, these values are compared with the results obtained experimentally, this, based on the ASTM C-177 standard of 2019 and through the use of the Heat Transfer Service Unit H112 of the firm P.A. HILTON LTD present in the laboratory of Appropriate Technologies, of the Vivero headquarters, of the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas, in the city of Bogota. After an analysis of the results of each material and a contrast with the data collected, a comparison is made between the three materials, finding that, although the Arboloco has higher conductivity and lower thermal resistance than the other two, the difference is minimal and its thermal insulation capacity is still considered effective in terms of the two thermal properties already mentioned, so that from an initial evaluation, this can be considered a material of lower environmental impact with the potential to replace conventional synthetic materials.
