El arte como medio de resistencia de las comunidades para la gestión de conflictos socioambientales en Bogotá

Abstract

The use of art as a means of resistance in environmental processes is a reality: communities come together to express their grievances against various projects, works, or activities that are at odds with shared interests and the protection of the environmental system as an exercise in governance. However, this premise leads to the stigmatization of communities due to the highly political and critical nature of their works. Therefore, it is necessary to recognize the artistic expressions used by the various social groups in Bogotá and to demonstrate the validity and impact of the projects carried out in the exercise of socio-environmental protection. This research is designed to analyze various facets of the relationship between art and the environment, but also to disseminate the acquired results to communities as an exercise in democratizing knowledge. In the first instance, a literature review was conducted within the framework of the ODCA (District Observatory of Environmental Conflicts) project of the Environmental Conflicts, Life, and Peace research group, with the aim of compiling environmental conflicts in which artistic expressions are present and influence social practice. In the second phase, a series of interviews were conducted with leaders and artists to recognize the voices working behind the scenes of socio-environmental management processes and who have generated or are generating an impact in their community. Finally, the results were compiled into an audiovisual product that conveys the perspectives and actions undertaken by some agents of change. This thesis was made possible thru collective action, the exchange of knowledge, and the recognition of historical memory.
