Resumen
Scientific collections are storage spaces for biodiversity information that aim to conserve specimens and their associated data over time. To this end, ideal conditions are established in which specimens and their metadata can be optimally conserved and used. These include appropriate storage spaces, categorization, classification, data collection of specimens, among others. In order to determine the state of the collections, different indicators have been established to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Taking into account their relevance in the development of research in different areas of biology, as well as their importance in processes of conservation and recognition of the fauna and flora present in a geographical area. For this reason, an analysis of the state of the ornithological collection of the Natural History Museum of the Universidad Francisco José de Caldas was carried out. This analysis addressed multiple aspects of the collection such as: geographical and taxonomic representativeness, completeness of data, status of specimens, among others. This allowed us to conclude that thanks to an arduous curatorial process carried out in recent years, the collection is in good condition and is a possible source of data for future research.
