Resumen
The results of the comparative study of the most used in the PET degradation and depolymerization processes are presented. PET is the polymer resulting from the reaction between terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. Procedures reuse PET can be classified as degradation and depolymerization. They developed: thermal degradation; glycolysis, with ethylene glycol without catalyst and without catalyst glycerine and basic hydrolysis of the polyethylene terephthalate. The products obtained in each case were recovered, new substances that may not be present in the original polymer and its monomers are different, resulting in turn add value to these processes of reuse of urban solid waste is evident. Basic hydrolysis was the best treatment, followed by thermal degradation, where the main problem is the efficient recovery of all volatiles and glycolysis with ethylene glycol in the presence of zinc acetate as catalyst.
