Resumen
The Bita river basin is located in the department of Vichada, has an area of 820,113 hectares and contains strategic ecosystems for the Orinoquía such as the morichales and flood forests. At present, its landscapes are being transformed due to the expansion of the agricultural frontier to the point that its main ecological structure could be compromised. In this context it is necessary to formulate technical actions that reduce the vulnerabilities of the existing ecosystems and guarantee the conservation of the department's natural heritage. The objective of this paper is to design a conservation proposal for the protection of water resources and associated native vegetation cover in the Bita river basin in the Department of Vichada. Using spatial analysis tools of geographical information systems, thematic cartographies and secondary information of the main biotic aspects of representative basin ecosystems and the main pressure factors that threaten their ecological integrity were processed. Based on the information resulting from the spatial analysis, conservation objectives and objectives for the basin were determined, defining two polygons as proposals for protected areas under the figure of Integral Management District.
