Resumen
This article makes an analysis of smart grids with the purpose of establishing a reference framework, which allows identifying the main characteristics of the electrical interconnection system in Colombia. Likewise, Smart Grids projects are presented both in Colombia and internationally, as well as the incentives proposed by the Colombian government, to support research and development projects that implement unconventional sources of energy and promote efficient energy management. Nowadays we depend almost entirely on energy to cover most of our needs, from the generation of electricity, through transportation, to the generation of heat. Electricity occupies a very important place in this scenario, because modern society depends heavily on it, even becoming paralyzed when the electrical system fails. In this sense, energy security has become one of the most important issues that national and international agendas occupy. Intelligent Electrical Networks are considered as one of the solutions to protect, monitor and optimize the work of all interconnected elements, thus providing a modern management system that could even mitigate the impact of the different natural disasters that can affect a country.
