Resumen
The Dimensionless Precipitation Curves (DPC) developed by Huff for Illinois, USA, are a widely used method of disaggregating storms in different geographic contexts. Considering the implementation of that methodology without a prior assessment of its suitability under conditions other than those of its original regional context, its applicability to the department of Boyacá, Colombia was studied. It was hoped to determine whether the curves generated by Huff could be used for the disaggregation of storms in the local context, or whether, on the contrary, the patterns described by them are distant from the temporal development of storms in Boyacá. Based on the results, it was sought to evaluate an alternative use for the DPC, beyond the temporary disaggregation of storms, for which Dimensionless Precipitation Curves were applied to the construction of Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) curves, which led to propose a methodology for the construction of that type of curves from the DPC and the maximum daily precipitation.
