Resumen
This research work arises from the interest of a group of graduates to know the skills and competencies that should be developed by the teaching directors in an educational institution, to successfully respond to the demands made in their professional practice not only from the regulations but also also from the community for which the respective institutional educational project is proposed. The research exercise was developed at the Reino de Holanda school, a district educational institution located in the Rafael Uribe Uribe locality of the city of Bogotá D.C. Based on a qualitative research model with a hermeneutic approach, an exercise of semi-structured interviews was carried out with 4 teaching directors of the institution and an exercise of self-ethnography with a teaching director of the same entity, obtaining relevant information to characterize the competencies that are required in the professional practice of the school's teaching directors. A documentary review of the competencies to be developed by the Coordinating Teaching Directors is carried out from the different laws, decrees and resolutions in force in the Colombian educational legislation. In the document he presents reflections that provide elements to define the specificity of the position of teaching director.
