Resumen
This paper seeks to analyse how the Colombian telenovela Pedro el Escamoso constructs identities and reinforces stereotypes through its protagonist, Pedro Coral, a character whose social, economic and cultural transformation reflects the dynamics of the popular classes in Colombia. Using a qualitative approach and a hermeneutic analysis, the dialogues, narrative and interactions of the character with others are studied in order to understand the impact of television products in societies such as the Colombian one. The research addresses concepts such as identity, representation of reality and stereotypes; from them, it examines how mass media, especially television, configure discourses that seek to connect with the aspirations, values and prejudices of the audience. It is highlighted that the narrative of the telenovela, through elements such as language, customs and social relations, generates an identification with the viewers, reinforcing cultural and social structures.
