Resumen
This research intends to approach the analysis of the socio-environmental segregation phenomenon in Bogota urban area, using three tools a) an approximation to the historical events which led to the current state of things, b) the creation of a Geographic Information System with socio-economic and environmental variables, and c) the construction of a UEQR - Urban Environmental Quality Rate - applied to each one of Bogota’s UPZs - Zone Planning Units. The source of the used data is the district public institution in charge for each thematic unit. The procedure for multi-scale analysis of the results consists of four methods a) linear correlation between UEQR and social stratum, b) UEQR statistic processing through variance, c) application of the Residential Segregation Rate, and d) the estimation of a Gini rate using the open source Geo-Segregation analyzer software. The results show a 59,5% correlation between social stratum and environmental conditions of citizens. In macroscale, the analysis threw a 67,72% Residential Segregation Rate with regard to the UEQR, the highest segregation gap between UPZs being found between Chapinero and the Bosa - Ciudad Bolivar areas. The urban environmental quality gap between the southwest and the northeast of the city, which show the worst and best UEQR respectively, is the clearest proof of socio-environmental segregation in Bogota. In a mesoscale, Suba appears as the most unequal area, while Bosa and Ciudad Bolivar are the most homogeneous.
