Resumen
The invention of plastic occurred in Great Britain during World War II, as byproduct of petroleum, from its creation to the present it has been a revolutionary product in the daily lives of a large part of people due to its malleable, multifaceted and durable (MINCIT, 2023). Since the 1950s, the demand for plastic products increased at a similar rate, even greater than that of population growth, this, in addition to the lack of knowledge of the long-term effects, added to the few mechanisms, strategies and relevant measures for the recovery process of post-consumer plastic products, became a time bomb that has exploded today (MINCIT, 2023).
In Colombia, approximately 1,250,000 tons/year of plastic is consumed, of which 74% of post-consumer products end up in landfills, a condition that leads to a growing environmental problem (El Tiempo, 2023). Bogotá generates 6,300 Tons/day of waste, the 56% of the waste corresponds to the flow of plastic waste of all types, by 2019 calculates a generation of 3,528 Ton/day (Ariza, 2023) of which 60% corresponds to plastics of single use, mainly made of PET, polypropylene, high and low density polyethylene (OAB, 2022).
The use of plastic has increased the pressure on the Doña Juna landfill and as result, the progressive deterioration of the quality of life of the people who reside in the area of influence of the landfill and the city in general, in addition to problems with pollution ofsurface waters, the proliferation of odors or bioaccumulation in living beings, problems that concern different sectors currently (Montes, 2019), on the other hand, The environmental impact and the depletion of natural resources have led to the proposal new alternatives in the creation of materials through the use of technologies and waste recyclable (Rincón et al., 2016).
As a mitigation measure, the Association of National Recyclers Ecoclean E.S.P is working on a strategy to comprehensively take advantage of single-use plastic waste. use, especially those classified as polypropylene, high-density polyethylene and low-density polyethylene. Project that consists of the planning, formulation and development of an industry dedicated to the manufacture and marketing of plastic wood (Ecoclean , 2022), a product obtained from the mixture of post-consumer plastics such as polypropylene, low polyethylene and high density, polystyrene, PVC, among others. Because it is a resistant material, it is used to develop structures similar to tables, columns, beams or plates with application to sectors of construction, recreation, agriculture, among others (Rodríguez, 2022).
To this end, the Association of National Recyclers Ecoclean E.S.P. development in the first half of 2023 the formulation and economic viability of the project, through the development of a baseline of information that puts the topic to work on in context, the determination of the resources necessary for the implementation of the project, the development of a financial and market study that can determine the key players in the industry and the technical, economic and financial feasibility that the project may have.
