Resumen
The cultivation of oil palm in Colombia has had a high growth in cultivated area covering approximately 466,185 ha (Fedepalma, 2016), occupying the first place in water demand at national level and suggesting a state of threat as far as the preservation and Good use of the water resource (WWF, 2012). Fedepalma as environmental sustainability proposal works on the implementation of the standard RSPO for the production of sustainable palm oil whose last update is the national interpretation (IN) 2013. The result of the review of the standard makes clear the absence of technical guides for water care. This paper proposes the inclusion of successful cases in the use of water by palm growers in Colombia, as possible guidelines for sustainable management of water resources, which have even come to have an economic benefit. Another element of analysis consisted of a spatial revision with maps of the IDEAM of environmental conditions and water sustainability, with which they were made a correlation of the municipalities belonging to the palmer nuclei in Colombia, the cultures certified in RSPO were identified, of which some showed negative indicators. These results show that the RSPO is insufficient to reach environmental sustainability in the Colombian territory.
