Resumen
The municipality of Villavicencio, in the department of Meta, covers an area of 131,126 hectares, divided into 10 urban districts (comunas) and 7 rural districts (corregimientos). Comuna 2 faces several issues that generate environmental impacts, including charcoal production, recycling of recoverable waste, tire incineration, and the burning of hazardous waste. These activities take place in neighborhoods such as Brisas del Guatiquía, El Industrial, La Lambada, and Jordán Alto. Charcoal production has been one of the main concerns for both the residents living near Brisas del Guatiquía and the environmental authorities. This activity involves the collection and transformation of plant material, as well as the emission of smoke and gases harmful to both health and the environment. The production of charcoal began in the 1970s in the Brisas del Guatiquía neighborhood, when informal community settlements were established along the river of the same name. In this context, a group of 15 women heads of household decided to create the Association of Charcoal Producers (ASOPROCAME) with the aim of generating economic resources to meet their basic needs. Over time, ASOPROCAME has become one of the main references in charcoal production in the municipality of Villavicencio. To address these problems and propose a solution that generates value-added products within the framework of the circular economy, a project has been designed to promote sustainable production processes. Its objective is to ensure economic income without harming the environment in the sector of El Jordán, particularly in the Brisas del Guatiquía neighborhood, in Villavicencio, Meta.
