Resumen
In recent years, the financial sector has been significantly transformed by the adoption of emerging technologies associated with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This study delves into how technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data are reshaping the financial ecosystem by enhancing efficiency, accessibility, and personalization in financial services. These innovations have given rise to Fintech companies that leverage digital tools to develop customer-centric business models, effectively bypassing traditional banking intermediaries and offering agile solutions for managing finances. The analysis in this study focuses on how Fintech growth has been exponential, positioning countries like Colombia as leaders in digital financial innovation. The paper examines both the advantages and challenges of implementing these technologies, highlighting their potential to improve productivity, streamline decision-making processes, and increase flexibility in financial operations. However, it also addresses critical challenges, such as job displacement due to automation, cybersecurity risks, and the need for robust regulatory frameworks to ensure stability in an increasingly digitalized environment. Through a literature review and recent data on the sector’s evolution, the study outlines the current state and future direction of financial technology. It concludes how the adoption of emerging technologies has generated a significant positive impact on the financial sector and how traditional and new Fintech institutions have improved the personalization, accessibility and efficiency of their services, adapting to the growing demands of users. These advances have allowed the creation of business models more focused on the delivery and distribution of financial products. Future research directions are suggested, including the exploration of new regulatory models and strategies for maximizing the benefits of financial technology while addressing its associated risks.
