"Towards a culture of peace: Social representations of violence" is the result of research conducted at school, "instituto central de estudios" (ICE) on the meanings of violence that the students through a series of workshops within "the professorship of peace." The first chapter sets out how the research problem presented by the need to inquire as multifaceted as is the violence issue. The second chapter presents the theoretical axes of social representations from the theory of Sergei Moscovici, violence and peace, besides making an approach to the concept of childhood. The third chapter discusses methodological issues, the focus of the methodology and data collection techniques that were used in schools. The fourth chapter includes the analysis and interpretation made from a process of systematization of information built from the categories of analysis that helped create the dimensions of social representations. In the fifth chapter the findings that reveal what the social representations of violence that sixth grade students shown. In the conclusions section as evidenced from these constructions made by students on violence from the school context can transform their concept of violence and move toward peace culture settings.
