Resumen
This study analyzes road accident rates in Bogotá D.C. between 2017 and 2022, focusing on the impact of reducing the maximum speed limit to 50 km/h on major roads. It reviews the Vision Zero policy implemented in 2018 and evaluates its results in terms of accident frequency, comparing data before and after the measure. Using statistical data from the Bogotá District Mobility Secretariat and the Traffic Police, the research examines variables such as the number of accidents, fatalities, and injuries, broken down by type of road user, road section, and year. The analysis identifies overall trends and variations in specific locations across the city, highlighting that the speed reduction had a heterogeneous effect: in some sections it reduced the severity of accidents, while in others no significant improvements were observed. The study concludes that although reducing speed is an important tool for improving road safety, it must be accompanied by infrastructure upgrades, stronger enforcement, and road safety education programs to maximize its effectiveness.
