Resumen
Many pianists who develop in the field of Afro-Caribbean music like salsa, have been interested in knowing the work of great figures of the piano, but nowadays few know about Lino Frías. Through this writing it is sought precisely to know about his way of playing the piano, doing the interpretive analysis of three themes, “Humo”, “Me voy pa’ la Habana” and “Tuya y más que tuya”, tracks recorded together with the Sonora Matancera, group to which is attributed the greatest longevity in history, surely considered as salsa Pioneer. Even though he set a particular and unmistakable style, the music followers of the Sonora Matancera consider that he has not been given the importance he deserves, and that is exactly what this work is about, to exalt those masterful interpretations that remained for posterity and that are still valid within the salsa piano. For this we will resort to musical transcription of the piano parts of the aforementioned themes in order to extract the respective interpretive elements that gave it that “particular style” and that will serve as input not only for the analysis, but also for the later live piano performance or study of these pieces.
