Resumen
This monograph explores how the access to basic formal financial services, such as bank accounts, credit, and insurance, can reduce economic and social inequalities between urban and rural areas in a country like Colombia. Financial inclusion is considered key to socioeconomic development, enabling vulnerable populations to participate in the formal economy and access essential resources. However, rural areas face significant barriers that limit access, including high transaction costs, poor infrastructure, low levels of financial literacy, and regulations poorly suited to their needs, which perpetuate financial and economic exclusion. Based on this analysis, the research highlights the need for inclusive policies tailored to rural specificities, promoting more equitable and sustainable growth. Finally, it presents recommendations to promote financial inclusion in rural areas, as well as conclusions on its potential impact on rural development and socioeconomic equity in the country.
