This research work aims to develop an adaptation of the traditional drums of the Atlantic Coast, of a modified drum kit, made with the traditional woods of these drums; and to transcribe and apply in this drum kit, interpretative elements of the Tambor Alegre, proposed by maestro Paulino Salgado, Batata III. Therefore, it starts with the exposition of a brief historical and geographical context of San Basilio de Palenque and of the life and work of Paulino Salgado. Subsequently, in the song Hacha, Machete y Garabato - by Paulino Salgado, Batata III, which belongs to the album Tambores y Cantos de Totó La Momposina - is analyzed, transcribed and adapted, to the tambor alegre and the modified drum kit. Finally, is explained how was the manufacturing process of some of the instruments that make up the modified drum kit and how was the sound research; In addition to presenting a brief review on the manufacture of traditional drums. This work means, then, a posthumous tribute to the teacher Paulino Salgado, Batata III, pillar of the transmission of knowledge of the drum, from San Basilio de Palenque to Bogotá. This work is in the mode of creation and interpretation. There will be a concert open to the public, which will show the result of the process.
