In the Unique Regulatory Decree of the Health and Social Protection Sector (Decree 780 of 2016 – Title 10) in its article 2.8.10.9 entitled "Obligations of the health Sector Authorities" states that each Territorial Health Entities (THE), it must consolidate and make a respective report on waste management information for each of its areas of jurisdiction in the first quarter of each year to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection (MHSP); It proceeds to the development of this internship whose purpose is the support to the elaboration of a report based on each one of these reports sent to the pertinent entity (MHSP). It should be clarified that no entity had reported information since 2014, so it is covered for it, data from the years 2014, 2015 and 2016.
In the first instance, the analysis of the information consolidated in a previous internship was made, where of the 37 THE existing in the country and to which they were asked for the information from to enclose the data on the management of their waste in terms of quantities generated , its final disposition, among others; Only 14 (37.83%) of these did report of information, and only one, which represents 2.7% of the total of the entities (Department of Boyacá) made report of complete information; followed by this, we once again made a request for this information to each THE, without reporting or with a report considered incomplete by means of videoconferencing, emails, calls, etc. of which 4 new reports were obtained from the departments of Chocó, Cundinamarca, Magdalena and Norte de Santander, achieving 48.64% (18 THE) of information captured and analyzed, in order to know the national panorama regarding the management of waste generated by health service providers and other activities; Example of this, is the destination of 50% of the total tonnes of waste generated between the years 2014, 2015 and 2016 to a landfill and the annual information relevant to the final destination rates as set forth in this document.
