Resumen
Ricardo García Duarte, Rector of the Distrital University Francisco José de Caldas, was interviewed on the occasion of the decoration the institution received from the Bogotá City Council to commemorate its 70th anniversary: Recognition and Symbol: The Rector highlighted that the decoration (the José Acevedo y Gómez Civil Order of Merit, Grand Cross degree) is a well-deserved recognition granted by the city of Bogotá for the university's work in education and community development. Identity and Articulation with the City: He stated that this Order symbolizes the Distrital University's identity as an academic, scientific, technological, innovative, and civic project. It reflects the brotherhood and articulation between the university and the city, framing it within a "city educator" and "civic university" project.
Present Status and Expansion: He emphasized the university's strong current status, its achievement of high-quality accreditation, and its physical and academic expansion:
Physical Expansion: He mentioned the Aduanilla de Paiva headquarters (with land for further development, such as engineering laboratories) and the new facilities in Ciudad Bolívar (an addition to the Faculty of Technology).
Academic Expansion: He noted the approval of three science projects, a Doctorate in Arts, and an Institute for Research in Engineering and Innovation.
Recognition to the Community: Finally, Dr. García stressed that the decoration is a recognition of the entire university community (teachers, students, officials, workers) and not just himself as a circumstantial figure.
