Resumen
The purpose of this study is to seek for possible linear correlations, which are statistically significant, between the value of the apartments’ square meter and the incidence rates of various types of crimes in the localities that constitute the city of Bogota (Colombia). Using the method of simple linear regression in order to create transversal cuts and time series, moderate to strong correlations were found between crimes such as homicide, house theft, car theft and personal assault, with the value of apartments’ square meter in many localities. These relations are not homogenous, but vary according to the locality involved and income of its inhabitants, while finding big differences in the types of crimes associated to these localities and their quantitative impact. These results resemble the outcomes of many other studies performed in the USA, UK, Sweden, Brazil and Spain.
