Resumen
Nowadays is undeniable the power that the mass media have in the society, particularly the television has a strong impact on the construction of public opinion, because present news events through the image generate in the viewer a kind of unquestionable belief in front of that they see. In the same way, and applied to the Colombian context, television news is a determining element in the way that people understand the Colombian armed conflict, more exactly the image that the public has built for Farc based on the news discourse. Thus, this research is based on the content analysis as a tool for discourse analysis by Teun Van Dijk, and his main epistemological references, the ideas explained by Giovanni Sartori and Pierre Bourdieu with their studies about television and public opinion; Noam Chomsky with his ideas on propaganda and Carl Schmitt with his approach on the enemy image. Regarding the findings, it is important to point out that it was shown that in general television in Colombia and worldwide is closely linked to political and economic power structures, and that the information monopoly allows hegemonic discourses to impose and establish reality versions that respond to particular interests.
