Resumen
This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Gall-Peters cartographic projection within the framework of new paradigms in map generation in our country. These changes include the inclusion of the national point of origin, the elimination of the Gauss-Krüger origins, and the consideration of the potential disadvantages and advantages derived from these modifications. The main purpose is to determine the feasibility of using the Gall-Peters stereographic projection to improve the representation of strategic areas and applications in Colombia. To achieve this objective, a detailed analysis will be conducted to evaluate how the Gall-Peters projection could be adapted to current needs. This will involve comparing the distortion of geodesic arcs projected on the Gall-Peters, Cartesian, Gauss-Krüger, and National Origin planes. Arcs of different lengths in kilometers, distributed across various areas of the country, will be selected and projected onto the aforementioned planes. The various deformations resulting from this process will then be determined. If the Gall-Peters projection is determined to be unsuitable for topographic applications, solidly grounded theoretical arguments will be offered to support this conclusion. A thorough evaluation of the feasibility and usefulness of the Gall-Peters map projection will then be conducted within the country's new cartographic context. Potential applications for its application in topography in Colombia will be explored, considering aspects such as accuracy, distortion of the shape and size of the represented areas, as well as its practical utility in different topographic applications.
