Resumen
This internship report presents a pedagogical experience in which a series of twelve interventions aiming at the reinforcement of intercultural awareness were taught to eleventhgrade students in a public Colombian education institution that has a broad population of functionally diverse (FD) students. Topics such as minority groups, national identity, and ethnicity were included in the sessions to raise students’ awareness regarding the importance of interculturality. Data was collected from students’ artifacts and our own reflection journals. In addition, a final reflection developed by our students contributed to determining the influence of the course on the development of intercultural competencies. Findings suggest that the sessions contributed to fostering creativity towards the creation of inclusive material, as well as reinforcing students’ language proficiency and intercultural awareness and appreciation of difference as a valuable and particular asset of human nature.
