Resumen
Climate change is a global phenomenon that has garnered increasing attention in recent decades due to its significant impact on the environment, society, and the economy. It refers to long-term changes in the planet's climate patterns, including the rise in the Earth's average temperature and extreme weather events. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) confirmed this in its Fourth Assessment Report, stating that "the warming of the climate system is unequivocal, as evidenced by the observed increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising global average sea levels" (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2008, p. 12). The report also discusses the main causes, primarily greenhouse gases (GHGs), making the control and measurement of these gases essential. Hence, measuring the carbon footprint of a business or company is crucial.
The document titled "Support for the Strategy Formulation Report for the Development of the Corporate Carbon Footprint Management Plan for the Salitre Transport Terminal" presents a detailed study on the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated by the Salitre Transport Terminal and proposes strategies for their mitigation and compensation. Emission factors from the IPCC and information management tools were used to calculate the GHG inventory. Organizational and operational boundaries were defined, and the quantification methodology was selected.
