Resumen
This study describes the operation of some of the most important SFCL devices designed and manufactured in the last 20 years, for this work it starts of the beginnings of superconductivity, going through the theory BCS and some complementary theories that will allow understanding the operation of the different types of superconducting compounds used as fault current limiters. The basic configurations are described, as well as those of some prototypes used in real applications around the world, since some of them use additional elements for their operation, each configuration is explained in detail. To give a clearer and more tangible view of the functioning of the SFCL devices, tests were carried out where a SFCL prototype was subjected to nominal and fault current signals. Finally, a comparison was made between the protections of conventional fault currents and the SFCL devices reviewed by the study, this in termsof efficiency and costs, finally proceeded to conclude.
