Resumen
The Rector of the District University, Dr. Ricardo García, announced that the Finance Committee of the Bogotá Council approved an extraordinary increase of $15 billion pesos for the institution's budget in 2019, in addition to the initial draft budget of $300 billion pesos. This increase is composed of an adjustment of the CPI plus 3.5% ($6.2 billion pesos) allocated for operational expenses (to prevent the defunding of essential items), plus an addition of $8 billion pesos to strengthen the core mission areas. The Rector highlighted that this concession is a significant and historic advance, as it had been many years since the Council approved an increase over the preliminary draft presented by the Central Administration. This represents a greater trust and political and academic legitimation towards the District University.
Although the budget of needs presented by the university was $32 billion pesos, the $15 billion pesos achieved are an important step in the right direction to achieve a more sustainable and balanced budget in 2019. These resources will be allocated to urgent needs derived from institutional accreditation, especially the creation of more permanent faculty positions for professors, which is fundamental to making a qualitative leap in research, teaching, and social outreach.
Dr. García urged the community to value this achievement and to maintain unity, as the recognition gained is a direct result of the university's good management and solid academic developments
