Resumen
The New Latin American Song is conceived as a cultural, political, and aesthetic phenomenon that accompanied social processes in Latin America since the 1960s. It is a musical genre that became one of the cultural, aesthetic, and sound capitals of the Latin American left, promoting and proposing a collective dream of change in economic, social, and cultural relationships. This phenomenon also served as an educational and communicative platform to the popular masses about the projects and political programs of the Latin American social movement's agenda. It also sought the unity of Latin American peoples by appealing to their cultural differences but urging to generate in their collective consciousness the concept and idea of Latin American identity. This was achieved through the use of sounds from popular music and lyrics that vary in themes from everyday life, love, political and historical figures, to those that encourage taking a stance on the reality experienced in those years.
