the objective of this research was to identify the main problems of SMEs focused on the functional area of research and development to build the knowledge base of an expert system for diagnosis of SMEs in Colombia.El Diagnostics Business is a simple and useful tool to know the current situation of an organization and the problems that impede their growth, survival or development; thanks to this it is possible to detect the main causes of problems "roots", in order to focus future efforts to find the most effective measures, avoid wasting energy and adapt their structures contributing to more management according to the possibilities of the SMEs

el objetivo de está investigación fue identificar las principales problemáticas de la pymes enfocadas en el área funcional de investigación y desarrollo para construir la base de conocimiento de un sistema experto para diagnóstico de Pymes en Colombia.El Diagnóstico Empresarial constituye una herramienta sencilla y de gran utilidad a fin de conocer la situación actual de una organización y los problemas que impiden su crecimiento, sobrevivencia o desarrollo; gracias a este es posible detectar las causas principales de los problemas "raíces", para así poder enfocar los esfuerzos futuros a buscar las medidas más efectivas, evitar el desperdicio de energías y adecuar sus estructuras coadyuvando a una gestión más acorde a las posibilidades de las pymes.
