Resumen
The present investigation has as a general objective. Promote the process of teaching Spanish as a second language through the reading of children's stories with Wayuu students in the sixth grade. Of basic secondary education of the Riritana rural headquarters in the municipality of Maicao la Guajira, the research is oriented under a qualitative paradigm, typified in the interpretation of the facts observed in the focus group, which was made up of six (6) selected students randomly of Wayuu origin and of both sexes. The data were collected through the application of workshops, unstructured interviews, the analysis of the same focused on the responses that the students gave to the different activities applied, and to the interview. The research concludes that the reading of children's stories is an instrument and a relevant strategy for the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language, in indigenous communities, in the same way, it is highlighted that in order to carry out this arduous work, educational services must be available. Of a teacher who speaks Wayuunaiki and Spanish. Therefore, he deduces that this is one of the difficulties that students face when they do from primary to secondary cycle, without having a proper command of Spanish.
