Abstract

This internship report addresses the development of functions and activities in the technical department of EDGE certification at SUMAC Latin America. Sustainable construction has gained great relevance due to the rapid population growth and the crisis of natural resources, and sustainable certifications, such as EDGE certification, are presented as a viable solution for more efficient and environmentally friendly construction projects. The overall objective of the internship is to help construction projects achieve and implement EDGE certification, thus promoting sustainable construction and commitment to the environment. The theoretical framework presents the contextualization of sustainable construction, EDGE certification standards, its benefits and applications, as well as the importance of this certification in Colombia. In the report, four specific objectives that guide the development of the internship are highlighted, and examples of certified projects are presented to highlight the relevance of EDGE certification in the country. In addition, certification processes are addressed, including basic calculations, audits and certification levels. The outcome of the internship has been the acquisition of fundamental knowledge on sustainable construction and experience in the process of obtaining EDGE certification for construction projects. In addition, strengths and weaknesses were identified during the experience, and recommendations were offered to improve future internships in this field. In conclusion, this internship has been a valuable opportunity to contribute to the promotion of sustainable practices in the construction industry, supporting a more environmentally conscious future committed to sustainable development.
