Resumen
This research aims to unveil caregiving knowledge that arises from the experiences of children and teenagers who perform household chores within the framework of parentified child labor. To identify this knowledge, 9 semi-structured interviews were conducted with children and teenagers, and conversation analysis was carried out, a strategy proposed by Garfinkel (1967) as cited by Potter (1996), using the concepts of Indexicality, reflexivity, and explanation. This research is based on qualitative research grounded in ethnomethodology, using semi-structured qualitative interviews as the instrument. Five girls and four boys between the ages of 11 and 17 participated in the study. The findings refer to how age, the absence of one parent, and parenting practices are aspects that families take into account when assigning caregiving tasks within parentified child labor. Additionally, the study shows which aspects of caregiving are most relevant to families when identifying what is being cared for and who is providing the care. Finally, it presents how routines allow the acquisition of a variety of knowledge, ranging from basic tasks such as household maintenance and hygiene until the acquisition of parenting practices when they care for other infants children.
