Pasantía en acción climática: estrategias para la reducción de la huella de carbono en las empresas asociadas a la Tercera Mirada

Abstract

This undergraduate project presents the development of a climate action internship carried out at the organization La Tercera Mirada, focused on measuring the carbon footprint of companies within the national productive sector. The internship involved technical support in the quantification of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, using the GHG Protocol as the exclusive methodological framework, without the application of ISO standards. The main objective was to contribute to the implementation of emission reduction strategies and promote the transition toward carbon neutrality in the companies assisted. Activities included the collection, organization, and analysis of environmental data, participation in internal audits, consolidation of environmental accounting documents, and support in the preparation of technical reports. These tasks were always conducted under the guidance and supervision of the core team of the organization. Additionally, emission sources were characterized by business category, with results evaluated by scope and strategic recommendations formulated for micro, small, medium, and large companies. As a result, technical competencies in sustainability and climate management were strengthened, and tangible contributions were made to corporate advisory processes on mitigation. The project also incorporates a legal and institutional framework, along with an environmental impact assessment of the actions carried out. The experience highlights the importance of hands-on training in climate action and underscores the role of emerging professionals in developing effective, context-sensitive environmental strategies aligned with national climate goals. Lastly, the need for follow-up and continuous monitoring mechanisms is emphasized to ensure the long-term sustainability of the achievements obtained.
