Resumen
Plains piedmont represents a zone of exchange of species of great importance between the vegetation of the Orinoquia and the Andina zone (Carvajal, et al., 2007). However, it has been little represented by studies on structure, composition or biomass quantification. Because of the above, was determinated the structure, the floristic composition and the aerial biomass of a permanent plot located in the municipality of Cubarral, in the state of Meta, Colombia. Based on structural characteristics, which allow characterization of the vegetation, following the Rangel & Velásquez (1997) and Cantillo (2001), the quantification of biomass was performed by the indirect method from barometric equations for ecosystems with similar ecological conditions to those of the study area. It was found that the structure of the zone is similar to other studies developed in the tropical zones of the plain and the sub-Andean strip of the Sumapaz massif, that the zone presents a high diversity and a value of biomass of 298,687 Mg ha- 1, surpassing the values registered by other authors for Colombia. In addition the area Showed a good state of conservation of biomass stocks that surpass the results of Peña & Duque (2013), for mountain forests in the inter-Andean valleys of the Antioquia region.
