Resumen
This work offers an overview of what the jazz violin was during its best years, which cover a good part of the twentieth century. Here is a small approach to the way in which the instrument found its way into a genre in which, from the point of view of traditional practice, it had not ventured, however, it is undeniable the importance that the violin had in the development of a new style called gypsy jazz, in which the fusion of different cultures resulted in a new way of playing jazz, with the violin occupying a leading role as a solo instrument. This document is presented in the form of a monograph, and deals with the life and musical career of three of the most important violinists in jazz, Stéphane Grappelli, Joe Venuti and Eddie South, analyzing their lives and sharing biographical data and some of their best recordings, which are organized in a table at the end of the document, rather than as a discography, as a section to highlight those solo jazz violin albums, which gives us the opportunity to highlight the sonic versatility of the violin as it complements very well in different formats and when accompanied by other solo instruments. This part also gives the option to listen to small fragments of different musical works, which completes the experience of entering the world of jazz violin.
