Resumen
The sonata for cello and piano in D minor, Op.40 composed by Dmitri Shostakovich has been an essential part of the instrument’s repertoire since the last century. The purpose of this work is to apply different kinds of analysis to the piece, in order to make technical, methodological and interpretive decisions based on the information obtained, as well as the experience acquired during the assembly of the musical work.
In the first part of this work, the historic context of the composer can be observed, from birth to some years after the composition of the sonata. This chapter gives us some essential elements to understand the different circumstances that forged the character and personality of the composer and his work. In the second part different levels of analysis are applied, such as formal, harmonic, thematic, among others, in order to understand the behavior of the sonata and obtain information that helps the interpretive proposal. Finally, the technical, methodological and interpretive proposals are presented, as well as some general considerations.
