Resumen
English progressive rock has been characterized for being a musical genre with a high degree of compositional and interpretative complexity, as well as for having a hybridization between different arts and conceptual currents. Consequently, it contains bands and performers of exceptional artistic quality of which stands out the drummer Bill Bruford, who was part of different outstanding progressive rock groups such as Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, and Earthworks, among others. This drummer stood out for his rhythmic complexity when playing the instrument and for his constant sonic exploration. Therefore, in this document a brief context of English progressive rock is made, as well as a brief description of the most outstanding exponents of the genre. On the other hand, a study on the life and work of drummer Bill Bruford is elaborated, exposing crucial points throughout his musical career and highlighting compositional and interpretative behaviors that gave a significant contribution to the world of drums. Finally, the transcriptions and rhythmic analysis of the drums of Long Distance Runaround (Yes, 1971), Discipline (King Crimson, 1981) and My Heart Declares A Holiday (Earthworks, 1987) are elaborated for their subsequent interpretation.
