Resumen
The report shows the process of the investigation, as opposed to the evaluation of the institutional meanings evidenced through the didactic practices that a mathematics teacher performs when teaching the concepts of perimeter and area in fifth grade of primary. Under the methodological perspective of the descriptive exploratory qualitative research, where the ontosemiotic approach of knowledge and mathematical instruction propitiated the theoretical tools. The instruments that allowed to collect information were the sequence of activities, the videos transcribed from the application of the sequence and the portfolios of the students, that were classified in units, to analyze them by means of the application of criteria given by the following categories: practices didactics, types of meanings, elements of meanings and levels of semiotic expression according to Lurduy (2014), since these are the categories that allow to identify the meanings of the teacher in an interaction in the classroom with students and an object mathematical definition.
